Fifty Shades of Grey Parodies

By | Featured, Films

With Fifty Shades Of Grey just days away from being released the hype is reaching crazy levels – but, fortunately, so are the parodies! 🙂 Check out these hilarious spoofs, before things get too serious this Friday when the film is released in the UK and US. From Barbie, to Lego to Disney’s Frozen – everyone is having a go.

Tap on any title to open the video in Creation 5

Fifty Shades of Frozen

This fan made trailer has brought two worlds together that we never thought would ever collide. Prince Hans is Christian Grey, while princess Anna transforms into Anastasia Steele. It’s quite scary how well it fits – we’ll never be able to look at Frozen in the same way again, that’s for sure!

Fifty Shades of Bricks

Recreated entirely from Lego bricks – stop-motion animators Antonio and Andrea Toscano have converted every scene from the steamy trailer into Lego. The duo were also responsible for Lego versions of Star Trek Into Darkness and Man of Steel. We’d honestly prefer to see this than the actual movie…

The Elevator Scene

Saturday Night Live’s Vanessa Bayer is on a mission to re-create the famous elevator scene in this Audi advert and it’s completely delightful! In Bayer’s version Anastasia Steele is a little more proactive…with every new person that gets in the elevator she tries to seduce them with her BDSM gear. 50 Shades won’t be as funny as this…shame.

Ellen Reads ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

Ellen was asked to record the novel Fifty Shades of Grey for the audio book. Things didn’t go according to plan. One comment on YouTube said it all really – “Am so against 50 shades but oh my god this is HILARIOUS!!!”

Ellen DeGeneres in Fifty Shades of Grey

Ellen, as usual, takes things to a whole new level in her role as Anastasia Steele. She wears a brunette wig and plain Jane clothes and completely nails the wide-eyed-sexually-excited look. “I know my way around a whip,” the daytime host quips. There is a lot less S&M and a lot more rambling about random stuff like midnight karaoke sessions and fruit.

Barbie’s Fifty Shades of Grey Parody – Fifty Shades of Pink

“If Barbie starred in Fifty Shades of Grey, she would be the one in charge.” Barbie takes control over Ken as they switch roles in this detailed spoof. Ken experiences Barbies “singular” tastes. Quite scary really.

Amazon Mother’s Day Ad – Saturday Night Live

Although this has been around for a while now, its still one of our favourite spoofs. Great to see big businesses having a laugh, right?

The Grammys 2015 – Everything You Need to Know

By | Featured, Music

The Grammys 2015 – Music’s biggest night of the year took place last night (February 8) in The Staples Centre, Los Angeles. The 57th Grammy Awards ceremony was hosted, for the fourth time, by L.L. Cool J and what a night it was. All the stars flocked to L.A. to celebrate a lot of musical awesomeness and rock out to the biggest names in the business.  Some of the highlights were Sam Smith dominated by taking home four awards and Kanye West, Rihanna and Paul McCartney’s stunning performance of “FourFiveSeconds.” Rihanna also stole the show with her enormous pink dress by Giambattista Valli. Read on for more of the juicy gossip, full winners list and dresses that did and didn’t impress.

BIGGEST MOMENTS…

The first moment is always an important one and this year’s opening performance did not disappoint. The ceremony kicked off with a huge bang bringing on veteran rockers ACDC to the stage. They were electric and full of energy getting the crowd roaring and raring to go.

H1-grammys-ACDC

Sam Smith took home four Grammys for Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year (the latter with co-writers James Napier and William Phillips) for Stay With Me (Darkchild Version) as well as Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album for In The Lonely Hour. “I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys,” Smith said on accepting his fourth award. (Tap here to play this video in Creation 5)

Some interesting and really impressive collaborations took place on stage with Tom Jones and Jesse J taking on You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, The Voice definitely picked these two for a reason, they had a great rapport and did the song justice. Another blissful team-up came in the form of Ed Sheeran and John Mayer, massive amounts of talent managed to fit on one stage with their performance of Thinking Out Loud; now dubbed every girl’s future wedding song. Mayer even managed to pull off a hot pink guitar! Hozier and Annie Lenox delivered a killer rendition of his Take Me To Church which all the viewers will now be hoping to find on iTunes no doubt.

H1-grammys-hozier-lennoxSpeaking of No Doubt; America’s ‘The Voice’ coaches Gwen Stefani and Adam Levine joined forces to perform a duet of the Maroon 5 hit My Heart Is Open, and although these two go head-to-head on the TV show, they’re absolutely perfect together on stage.

H1-grammys-levine

As previously mentioned Rihanna, Kanye and Paul took to the stage and blew us away with their performance of FourFiveSeconds, all dressed in black with a white backdrop it wasn’t just the vocals that were a power statement, the crowd got on their feet and rocked out to this one. Jazzing it up were the solid duo of Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett swooning and crooning old school style to Cheek To Cheek.

H1-grammys-gaga-bennet

More big names graced the stage throughout the star-studded evening such as Katy Perry signing By The Grace of God, Usher giving a tribute to Stevie Wonder singing If It’s Magic, Pharrell made us very Happy and even Prince made an appearance. (We’ve put some of the best video performances together towards the end of this post.)

Madonna’s performance was show stopping – any song that finishes with Madonna ascending to the heavens gets our vote. Her performance of the 90’s house-style single Living for Love sounded fantastic and was definitely a major highlight of the evening. She looked absolutely killer in her Wild West burlesque get up and brought her Givenchy-masked minotaurs along as well.

H1-grammys-madonna

A great big OMG moment was when Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig wore a blonde wig and nude leotard and danced to Sia’s performance of Chandelier creatively depicting the original video of the song. Three words for you In. Cred. Ible. She danced alongside Maddie Ziegler (star of the video) and pulled off some totally mental moves which actually worked somehow! It was gloriously strange and amusing.

H1-grammys-sia

An appearance from the President is always one to be remembered; Barak Obama delivered a powerful video message against domestic violence followed by a live speech from a survivor.
(Tap here to watch this video in Creation 5)

Another heart stopping moment was when Beck went up to accept his award for Album of the Year and Kanye went up too (Taylor Swift barely had a chance to accept her award for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 13 before Kanye West rushed the stage, grabbed the microphone out of the startled teen’s hands and aired his objections. “I’m sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!”) leaving Beyonce and Jay-Z cringing in their seats for fear of what he might do this time, but it turns out it was just a joke from the acceptance speech tamperer! (To watch this video in Creation 5, just tap here.)

Another trickster in the form of Shia LaBeouf came on stage to announce that Sia was about to perform and decided to read out a love letter. Standard strangeness by our Shia then.

Beyonce eventually got her moment as Queen of the Grammys and took to the stage in a very snug white dress and belted out Take My Hand, Precious Lord. This was a show-stopper if ever there was one.

H1-grammys-bey

And finally…John Legend and Common got together to sing Glory which features in the award-winning movie Selma closing out the show in style.

THE DRESSES…

The crowd-wowers; the best and worst-dressed awards at this year’s Grammys go to…

Nikki Minaj was smoking hot in Tom Ford, if not a little edgy and fierce.
Ariana Grande pretty princess looked great in this Versace number and high ponytail. Looking good.
Rihanna (?) Can we say much more than that?

V17-grammys-minaj V12-grammys-ariana V1-grammys-rihanna

And the cleavage awards go to…Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian.

V10-grammys-bey V3-grammys-lady-gaga V4-grammys-Kim

Charlie XCX, sorry but what were you thinking? Moschino can SO get it wrong.
Madonna looking very scary in Givenchy took to the red carpet and shook her cleavage. Ouch.
Taylor Swift totally nailed elegance, cute, cool, on the money and beauty all in one outfit by Elie Saab. She wins.

V15-grammys-XCX V2b-grammys-madonna V16-grammys-swift

Jhene Aiko looked simply stunning in this Alberta Ferretti number, not bad for your first Grammy attendance.
Annie Lennox pulls off a graceful, elegant and sleek look showing her class and maturity in one simple black dress.
Ciara looked pretty ridiculous in her Alexandre Vauthier number. It looks like a bird just flew into a passing train.

V22-grammys-jhene-aiko V20-grammys-anna-lennox V23-grammys-ciara

Chrissy Teigen looked beautiful as ever in this long white Gucci dress. Impressed.
Nick Jonas really really shouldn’t have worn this Versace suit. OR the shoes. Really.
But don’t worry John Legend can show you how its done in his smoking hot Dolce & Gabbana style.

V21-grammys-john-chrissy V24-grammys-nick-jonas

Ralph & Russo gave Jesse J a super-sleek and elegant look for the night. We like!
Pharrell can pull off any look and make it awesome. He totally rocked it again in Adidas 3M although we are not quite sure his wife Helen has the same skills, not loving the all-in-one jumpsuit sadly.
Katy Perry just really isn’t very good at this. Unfortunately even the likes of Zuhair Murad couldn’t manage to make Perry appear glamorous this time. Frumpy and spangly, sorry Katy.

V23-grammys-jessieJ V11-grammys-pharrell V5-grammys-miley-perry

Anna Kendrick, you look amazing in this black tux by Band Of Outsiders. Wow.
Gwen Stefani really got it right this year in this Custom Versace jumpsuit.
Aloe Blacc looked super-sharp in Sand Copenhagen.

V18-grammys-anna-kendrick V14-grammys-gwen V18-grammys-aloe-blaac

Jennifer Lawrence & Kim Kardashian bare all

By | Featured, Films

Nudity seems to be the flavour of the month. Jennifer Lawrence appears stark naked in Vanity Fair this month and so does Kim Kardashian in Love magazine. Lawrence’s images ooze style, sophistication and elegance, whereas the Kardashian images seem a little seedy. There’s provocative naked and then there’s butt naked. Check out the images below – although not whilst at work!

Jennifer Lawrence

Pick up the March 2015 issue of Vanity Fair and you will be treated to seeing the Oscar-winning actress lying stark naked except for a giant Colombian red-tailed boa constrictor. Shot by famous French photographer Patrick Demarchelier, the images were taken in a private Hollywood residence last year and pay homage to the 1981 Richard Avedon Vogue portrait of Nastassja Kinski.

Richard-Avedon-Nastassja-Kinski-and-the-Serpent-14-June-1981-1024

Acccording to Vanity Fair it was only a long metal rod with a hook at the end that came between the serpent and the 24-year old star. Lawrence only became uncomfortable when the snake took an interest in her neck, which is when the shoot quickly ended and the boa was put back in its box!

jennifer-lawarence-creation5-1

Jessica Diehl, Vanity Fair’s fashion and style director said of Lawrence: “Jennifer has the perfect combination of strength, sexuality, humour and, above all, tomboy to pull this off.”

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian’s shoot for Love magazine can be seen in Issue 13 which hits the streets in a couple of days (February 9). The editor-in-chief, Katie Grand, styled the whole controversial photo shoot. Although she promised she’d never go nude again, back in 2010 (!) Kardashian admits that she likes showing off her assets: “I like nudity, Kanye always says, ‘Dress sexier’—he’s always most encouraging.” Despite the rumours Kardashian’s prominent bottom is all natural: “No I did not,” she says about whether or not she has butt implants. “I never did. And actually my butt is not that big.”

Top album must-haves to be released in 2015

By | Featured, Music

Some of the biggest names in the business are set to release new albums this year; and we are all crossing our fingers to see Fleetwood Mac, Rihanna, Björk, Bob Dylan and Kanye West back on the “shelves” to make 2015 an epic year for new music. 2014 wasn’t too impressive with only the likes of Taylor Swift managing to sell millions; this year is set to knock the last out of the park. Many acts have announced potential album releases but as yet have not provided a title, we are calling them the TBA’s (to be announced); such as all of the above plus Rita Ora, Demi Lovato, and Britney Spears. So while they keep us teetering on the edges of or seats we have a huge headline of albums that are eagerly awaited or in fact already released, for 2015…so here’s the top pickings of the variety artists who have confirmed releases this year; titles and all! There’s something for everyone.

Tap any video title to open it in Creation 5

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds new album Chasing Yesterday is due to be released on the 2nd March 2015 on Gallagher’s label Sour Mash Records. This is the second album by the band formed in 2011, written and produced by Noel. The style of the album has been compared to his previous work on Definitely Maybe with Oasis. Two singles have already been released, the first being In the Heat of the Moment apparently inspired by an astronauts experiences from going into space. The second features Johnny Marr, the ex Smiths guitarist, on Ballad of the Mighty I which Gallagher claims is one of the best songs he has ever written. They previewed the album by performing four of the tracks at an initimate show in London on February 2nd. One To Another, In The Heat Of The Moment, Lock all The Doors and The Dying of The Light giving the impression that the album was going to include some classic Noel with a new Southern Blues twist. Gallagher claims to have included a mix of psychedelic, jazz, blues and rock and roll on the album, and that one track The Right Stuff is “like a mix of T Rex, The Rolling Stones and Queens of the Stone Age”.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – The Ballad Of The Mighty I from Chasing Yesterday

Bob Dylan. The lyrical king strikes again with his thirty-sixth album Shadows In The Night. However this time they are not his words, Dylan has taken ten romantic tunes by some of the greats, including Frank Sinatra, and literally transformed them into his own inventions. He did this twice before in 1992 and ’93 but this time he has reverted back to his voice from the sixties giving these songs the Blues treatment turning them into a “quietly provocative and compelling” album.

Bob Dylan – Full Moon and Empty Arms from Shadows In The Night

Mark Ronson has just released his fourth studio album Uptown Special, and it is pretty special – not only for the reason that he dedicated it to the late Amy Winehouse with whom he collaborated on her most successful album – just take a look at the line up of featured artists (Andrew Wyatt, Mystikal, Bruno Mars, Jeff Bhasker, Keyone Starr, Kevin Parker, Boys Noize and Stevie Wonder). Adding to this part of the tune Uptown’s First Finale was recorded by the marvel that is Stevie Wonder. Robson sent a melody to his agents hoping that on a wing and a prayer he might give him some input – the next thing he knows Wonder has taken it upon himself to just go ahead and record it! “Stevie Wonder actually recorded a piece of music that I wrote. I’ve listened to it a hundred times and it still messes me up when I play it”, Ronson is overwhelmed. The eleven track album has already received much critical acclaim “pop-friendly, and undeniably sexy collection of funk and R&B”, “contagious cool” and “somewhere between a chin-stroking jazz poetry recital and a riotous teenage disco” are just a few of the comments made so far.

Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk from Uptown Special

Madonna’s Rebel Heart album is due to be released in full on March 6th 2015. Online leaks of some demos of the songs were counterattacked by the Madonna team by pre-releasing six of the completed tracks thus diverting the traffic back to her own publicity. Shrewd! So, the teasers are out there to entice us into what we can expect from the raunchy queen of pop this year. Living For Love is a stripped back ballad type effigy with piano (and writing skills) from the talented Miss Alicia Keys. Avicci, Blood Diamonds, DJ Dahi and Carl Falk collaborated on Devil Prey to create a more up-tempo folk-dance track which channels the idea that drug taking doesn’t get you as deep as natural personal experience. The potential radio hit Ghost Town is a power track. Nikki Minaj worked on Unapologetic Bitch and Bitch I’m Madonna however only features on the latter, that’s a lot of bitching! Kanye West wrote Illuminati with our songstress and has come up with something rather different and worth a listen.

Madonna – Living For Love from Rebel Heart

Avicci’s much anticipated album Stories was due for release in the first quarter of 2015, due to illness he is reportedly setting the date back but it is now said to be out in the first half of this year. He released the first track The Days starring the voice of Robbie Williams in October 2014 from the album, and we have all heard Eliminate feat. Calvin Harris, so it seems he has managed to maintain his penchant for the folk, rock, country, pop, electro-dance style which he has made us grow to love.

Avicci feat. Calvin Harris – Eliminate from Stories

50 Cent’s Street King Immortal. If ever an album were intensely anticipated it has to be this one. His last album release was Before I Self Destruct way back in 2009, since then the fans have been hankering for some more ‘fiddy’ but to no avail. He started working on a rock, dance inspired album in 2010 but as it progressed his influences trailed back to his Hip-Hop roots which led him up the path of Street King Immortal and working with the likes of Alex da Kid, Bangladesh, Cardiak, Dr. Dre, Hit-Boy, Jake One, Jim Jonsin, and Just Blaze among others. Since then it has been due to be released on four different dates spanning four years with some tracks having been drip fed to us over this time frame! This is the year though that we have confirmation from 50 and G-Unit Records, Caroline Records and Capitol Records, 2015 IS the year.

50 Cent – Major Distribution from Street King Immortal

Jose Gonzalez; Vestiges and Claws is his first record since 2007! It is due for release on the 17th February and the fans are literally screaming for it. Gonzalez has not used a producer for the album claiming that he prefers the sound of his homemade music (he literally recorded this in his home in Sweden) to the crisp modern sounds of an over-produced track. The result is an inspired, eccentric, eclectic mix of modern, folk and groovy rhythm that is both confident and yet hints at trepidation. He talks about how he’s found inspiration in sprawling 70’s Brazilian productions, American folk rock and West African desert blues this time. Gonzalez, and this album, have been described as “A deep, artful thinker whose singular approach to song writing and sonics sets him worlds apart, José González is in a class by himself. He has a voice. He has a sound. He has a point of view. Vestiges & Claws — musically gorgeous, strikingly profound in lyric — has a unique and quietly visceral power that is as an outstanding addition to what is now an impressive body of work. The album is, without question, the most highly anticipated of his career”.

Album Trailer for Vestiges & Claws by Jose Gonzalez:

More albums to look out for this year;
Kid Kudi – Man on The Moon III
Limp Bizkit – Stampede of the Disco Elephants
Ludacris – Ludaversal
Muse – Drones
Coldplay – A Head Full Of Dreams
Emeli Sandé – Who Needs the World

Ultra Music Festival Miami 2015

By | Featured, Music

For Showtime! this weekend we dive into the world of EDM and take a look at the upcoming Ultra Music Festival in Florida – with only 47 days to go, things are hotting up in Miami! Over 100 DJs and live acts have now officially confirmed for the 17th annual edition of Ultra Music Festival during Miami Music Week.

If you’re into EDM in any way, this festival has to be on your bucket list.

ultra-H0

The festival was founded in 1999 by Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes, and is named after the 1997 Depeche Mode album, Ultra. Even though the same few headliners are showcased each year – Tiesto, Avicii and David Guetta are always there – Ultra remains an enlightening experience on trending genres, the live electronic music experience and club fashions.

ultra-V1 ultra-V3 ultra-V4

Back in 1999 Ultra was just a one day festival and many festival goers have witnessed it grow from a series of tents and shipping container-lined stages to the industry-leading spectacle that it has become today. The festival franchise is now a worldwide phenomenon with Ultra festivals held in Ibiza, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Santiago, Seoul, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Split (Croatia), Hvar (Croatia) and most recently in Thailand.

ultra-H1

It’s not just the young producers that rock the crowds at Ultra. Last year, 51-year old Carl Cox celebrated his 10th anniversary at Ultra and was on stage on Saturday alone for four sweaty hours! 37-year old Eric Prydz was also killing it all weekend with 3 huge sets and a finale on Sunday.

ultra-H2

Consequence of Sound has this to say about the festival “Ultra can be a life-changing experience, and these artists are the catalyst of the change. As celebrity among DJs grows, there is opportunity to truly affect a culture. Armin Van Buuren leads the charge, but new up-and-comers are ready to carry that torch.”

Cast away! with Update 4.4

By | Featured, Press Release

We’re really excited about our latest update for many reasons, but the biggest reason for our childish levels of anticipation is the fact that you can cast anything – music, radio, videos, photos – to your smart TV directly from your iPhone or iPad (or NAS) using the devilishly clever little gadget, Chromecast.

Chromecast

Google’s Chromecast dongle can display high-definition 1080p content using your television or monitor’s HDMI port. It connects to your home network using a Wi-Fi connection, requiring minimal setup. Unlike other devices, it doesn’t have a physical remote control or local storage. Setup and functionality is foolproof, and if you’re used to streaming content across several different devices, Chromecast is a blessing. And at 35€ ($35 or £30) it’s a blessing for your pockets as well.

We recently wrote a blog on the delights of Chromecast and looked into how easy it is to set up and use, you can check out our article here.

Music streaming with Deezer

C5 already supports Rdio and now we’ve added Deezer! Deezer lets you listen to your music wherever and whenever you want. Explore over 35 million tracks and 30,000 radio channels, create playlists and follow the artists you love. With Deezer’s high-quality audio stream, you’ll never miss a beat!

DLNA functionality

Our DLNA function has been revved up to an explosive level!

  • In the last update we gave the DLNA a major overhaul adding the ability to stream radio, which wasvery difficult to implement, technically. So difficult in fact, that we are the only app on the market that offers Net Radio using DLNA! Now, you can also enjoy local videos, local photos and YouTube videos on your Big Screen using DLNA. Life will never be the same again!
  • We’ve also added a new window for controlling videos when using a DLNA video player, so you can now control the timeline.
  • When you open C5 it will automatically select the last Server/Player you used. Handy!
  • If you previously had problems receiving feedback from your DLNA player, which made C5 crash or freeze, you’ll be pleased to hear that those days are over! It’s sorted!
  • For the Xbox fans amongst you, did you know that the Xbox One works really nicely as a DLNA player? Try it! Creation 5 manages it perfectly.

c5_gallery_03_1

Music

  • Finally! You can now control the position of the song that is playing. Zip, skip, jump, jive, forward or rewind. You now have the power!
  • C5 can now play loads more music formats than before

General Performance

  • When you receive a phone call, the music will stop while you talk and then restart where it left off before you were interrupted.
  • In our quest to make C5 easier to use, we’ve added a fantastic new selection window for the iPhone. You’ll notice how easy it is to navigate.
  • We’ve also cleared the air and swatted some irritating little bugs.

Miss Universe 2015

By | Featured

For the second year running now, the Miss Universe winner has been a Latina. This year, in the 63rd Miss Universe Beauty Pageant, a 22 year old Paulina Vega (Miss Colombia) has taken the crown, beating contestants from more than 80 other countries. There was plenty of scandal, quite a few tears, a lot of WTF moments and Twitter was set ablaze with the injustice of it all. We report here on some of the best and worst moments.

(To watch any video in Creation 5, just tap the title)

An introduction to the competition

As Miss Universe, Paulina Vega will be put up in a luxury apartment in New York with a full wardrobe and endless beauty products. She will also be awarded a one-year scholarship from the New York Film Academy along with receiving an undisclosed salary.

universe-winner-V1 universe-winner-V2 universe-winner-V3

So, what’s so great about her? Well, she is said to be very hard-working, intelligent, glamorous, professional, a student of business administration with goals, but most importantly, she looks like Latina-barbie. “It will be a dream come true to represent the woman of today,” Vega told the Associated Press. “A woman that not only cares about being beautiful and being glamorous, but also cares about being a professional, intelligent, hard-working person.”

universe-intro-H1

Paulina Vega is crowned Miss Universe 2014

However, there were lots of disgruntled spectators who claimed that the competition is geopolitically swayed. For example, Jamaica, with it’s population of less than 3 million, is not exactly an economic powerhouse. Twitter was ablaze with bitter comments of angry people expressing their feelings of injustice.

universe-intro-V1 universe-intro-V2 universe-intro-V3

The Jamaica affair was not the only controversy this year. Miss Lebanon took a photo with Miss Israel and faced extreme criticism. Since Israel and Lebanon have technically been at war since the late 40s, the consequences could have been serious. Back in 1993, the then Miss Lebanon was stripped of her title for the same offence. What a shame that these things can’t be put aside just for a few days. Miss Israel, a.k.a. Doron Matalon, was philosophical. “Too bad you cannot put the hostility out of the game, only for three weeks of an experience of a lifetime that we can meet girls from around the world and also from the neighboring country,” Matalon wrote on Facebook.

Miss Universe National Costume Highlights

Moving swiftly on, the shows highlights and some WTF moments:

  • Miss USA (Nia Sanchez) was the runner-up, followed by Miss Ukraine (Diana Harkusha). Miss Netherlands (Yasmin Verheijen) came 4th and Miss Jamaica (Kaci Fennell) finished in 5th place.
  • Miss Indonesia (Elvira Devinamira)’s 44lb outfit won the International Costume Competition. Everyone was quite fond of Miss Canada’s (Chanel Beckenlehner) hockey stick outfit too though.

universe-n-costumes-H1

universe-n-costumes-V1 universe-n-costumes-V2
  • No African countries made it to the top 15. Resulting in no African countries being represented for nearly three quarters of the night.
  • The Miss Congeniality winner was Miss Nigeria (Queen Celestine), however the only time she was really shown was when accepting her award.
  • All the answers given by the contestants to the questions asked by the judges, were cringe-worthy at best. Miss Colombia said that women should learn that men still believe in inequality… Miss Netherlands (Yasmin Verheijen) said she was an ambassador for child prostitution and Miss Ukraine (Diana Harkusha) said she likes nice swimsuits.
  • Miss Netherlands’ continued on the wtf path when her ‘’Fun Fact” was that she was locked in a cage for 12 hours.
  • Finally, the shows hosts were met with an eruption of boos from the crowd when they announced the results. lol.

The Top 10 Super Bowl ads ever

By | Featured

The Super Bowl 2015 is this Sunday (Feb 1st), it is one of the most watched American TV broadcasts every year with over 100 million viewers. The half time acts are always the biggest music stars of the moment; this year Katy Perry is set to rock the audience at the Phoenix Stadium, Arizona. She will be joined by Lenny Kravitz while the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks take a well earned break. One of the major financiers is of course the advertising and to get a spot there is some seriously fierce competition (not to mention that the average slot costs a mere $4 million). Budweiser, Coca Cola, Doritos, McDonalds and Pepsi are just a few of the big names that fight for a place within the Super Bowl’s many ad breaks and every year they have to come up with something innovative, unique and clever. Over the years the advertisements during the airing of the Super Bowl have become notorious for their comedy, celebrity cameos and unpredictability and have become a phenomenon in their own right with many people tuning in solely to see what the advertisers will come up with.

These are our top ten most iconic, quirkiest, kookiest, funniest, genius and memorable ads ever to be aired during the Super Bowl.

1. Coca Cola 1980  – This is one of the earlier ads to be aired during the Super Bowl and has become an iconic one due to the star of the show being the defensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Joe Greene. Also known as “Mean Joe”, the star player is on his way to the dressing room injured as a young fan offers him his Coca Cola, in an act of gratitude he in turn gives the fan his game jersey. This earned Joe his most famous role and there were even spin off ads made from this by Proctor and Gamble where the jersey stinks and the fan rejects it.

Tap here to watch this video in Creation 5.

2. Apple 1984 – This has been considered to be one of the best Super Bowl ads of all time for its influence and assistance in launching the Mac into the personal computer market. It was directed by the famous Ridley Scott and inspired by the novel 1984 by George Orwell. The setting is futuristic looking with an army of prisoners sat watching a propaganda-like speaker on a large screen. A woman wearing athlete’s attire with a Macintosh branded T-Shirt comes running through the audience and hurls a hammer at the screen. The message that comes across is “On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce the Macintosh. And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like ‘1984.’”

Tap here to watch this video in Creation 5.

3. Pepsi 1992 – This has been considered the best Pepsi ad of all time as well as being a classic Super Bowl commercial. It is typical nineties, with one of the biggest supermodels of the time wearing high-waisted tiny denim shorts and a white vest showing off the curves that she was so famous for. Cindy Crawford stars as this thirsty girl who pulls up in her red sports car at a roadside stop to drink a can of Pepsi from a vending machine. Two young boys watch on in awe, amusingly the first boy eventually says “Is that a great new Pepsi can, or what?”. The ad became so iconic they even recreated it ten years later with Cindy this time opting for a Diet Pepsi!

4. Budweiser 1995 –This was the first in a series of adverts by Budweiser featuring three frogs, each of which simply deliver a syllable “Bud”, “Weis” and “Er”. Launched during the ’95 Super Bowl the frogs touched the hearts of America and the world and became one of their most popular campaigns. Budweiser have been a major player in the Super Bowl ad stakes and have had many famous mascots arise from their commercials. Such as the Clydesdale horses, Dalmatian dogs and puppies assisting in making them the most successful advertiser thirteen times in the Super Bowl Ad Meter.

5. Budweiser 1999 – This ad was based on an award winning short film True written and directed by Charles Stone III. It just features a bunch of friends talking to each other on the phone saying “what’s up” or “Whasssuuuuup” in a funny way and sticking their tongues out whilst all drinking a Budweiser. It seemed so trivial and silly at the time but every school kid and even adults latched on to the phrase and it could be heard being used all over the world. It was used in the spoof horror movie Scary Movie, and reemerged six years later involving criticism of George Bush and promotion of Obama.

Tap here to watch this video in Creation 5.

6. Reebok 2003 – It’s not only one of the funniest ads ever to air, but it set an incredibly high standard for future Super Bowl spots that few have been able to top. Terry Tate, played by actor/athlete Lester Speight, is hired by a big corporation to keep their office drones from goofing off or keeping up office protocol when they’re at work. Tate achieves this not through corporate retreats or mission statements, but by tackling the hell out of anyone who steps out of line.

Tap here to watch this video in Creation 5.

7. Doritos – Back in 2006 Doritos had the genius idea to launch a competition where the viewers were given the opportunity to film and enter their own commercials with the premise being the winner would air their ad at the Super Bowl. The Crash the Super Bowl promotion is still to this day a massively popular competition with millions of entries having to be scoured through to find the winner. It became even bigger when, in 2009, Doritos added a million dollar prize should any entry be allocated the number one on the Super Bowl Ad Meter Poll. This is one that made it…entitled Free Doritos by Joe and Dave Herbert from Illinois won the grand prize at the Super Bowl XLIII. An office worker uses a crystal ball to see whether he will get the desired Doritos, he then launches it at the vending machine and smashes the window thus freeing all the crisps! Genius.

Tap here to watch this video in Creation 5.

8. Old Spice 2010 – This is a very amusing tongue in cheek effort to convince men (or their women) that they need to smell like the Old Spice man in order to be a real man, look like he does and live like he does. It’s funny, it’s exaggerated, its sexist and ridiculous and…a massive success in the ad world. There have been many follow ups since the original along the same line of thinking but this one stars a half naked Terry Crews as the protagonist and the reason why people started wearing Old Spice again – it must be working, with almost 50 million views on YouTube!

Tap here to watch this video in Creation 5.

9. Volkswagen 2011 – This became one of the top viral ads ever to have been aired at the Super Bowl. Since its first airing in 2011 this ad received an incredible response having now over 60 million views on You Tube. The mother of the child actor was said to be utterly overwhelmed by the public’s reaction. The advert, for the new Volkswagen Passat, depicted a young boy dressed head to toe as Star Wars character Darth Vader. The boy attempts to use “the force” on inanimate objects around the house but none of his efforts seem to work. About to give up, he tries out his force on the new car and amazingly the engine starts…Dad is then pictured in the kitchen with the remote control, showing that the new Passat can be started remotely. More importantly the ad delivers a sense of humour and reality amongst families, plus the iconic visual of Star Wars and childhood dreams and fantasies. It’s a winner!

Tap here to watch this video in Creation 5.

10. McDonalds 1993 – This ad, known as The Showdown, features Michael Jordan and Larry Bird in a hoop shooting contest of seriously exaggerated standards. Jordan and his contender Bird are seen bouncing the basketball off walls, the scoreboard, through windows, etc. in attempt to outdo each others’ skills on the court; the prize being the McDonalds Big Mac and Fries that are on offer. This has become another of the most iconic, all American Super Bowl ads of all time.
