Sunday Sessions with Joey Rockstar

By April 15, 2015Music

This weeks #SundaySessions take us to Toronto with up and coming rapper Joey Rockstar who has worked with Kanye West’s Good Music signee “CyHi The Prynce”. He might be fairly new to the scene, but what he lacks in experience he makes up for with passion and a determination to succeed.

This 20-year old rapper released his debut single in 2012 – Clothes and Jays – which led to a collaboration with Kanye West’s Good Music signee “CyHi The Prynce”. Since then Joey has released 5 independent projects and is gearing up for his latest release The Rich Boys Mixtape.

Joey’s sound will appeal to fans of boom bap, smoked-out rap and/or experimental hip-hop. Hot New Hip Hop said in a recent feature on Joey “This Toronto native sounds like he has a lot going for him.” Users on Hot New Hip Hop rated him “Very Hottttt” (82%).

Joey’s Sunday Sessions

1 – Big Sean – Deserve It ft. PartyNextDoor (Dark Sky Paradise)
“I like this song because he reflects on where he has come from as an artist, and he paints a picture with the lyrics. I felt like I could envision what he was talking about and the instrumental created a nice atmosphere.”

2 – Jeremih – Planes ft. J. Cole
“I like this song because Jeremih’s voice is so unique and incredible and the beat is awesome! The song in general is really inspiring and the J cole verse doesn’t hurt either!”

3 – Kendrick Lamar – Alright
“This upbeat song is so unique. I love the way Kendrick opens the song up and the lyrics are very creative!”
